Flames of Grace
artist biography
Since the time I was young, I loved being creative. I can remember being in my room for hours
immersed in a new project. I was the queen of starting lots of projects (not necessarily finishing
them all!). It was always the curiosity and joy of learning something new that inspired me. It is
that curiosity that has inspired my varied and ever-changing designs.
After I graduated from college, I never lost the desire to create and work with my hands. I was the
one who took every adult ed course around from pottery to basket weaving! I was determined to
keep myself happy and engaged in something that brought me joy and relief from the often
demanding job of Management Consulting. In fact, my first painting came out of the need to let off
steam. I went to the art store, bought the biggest paintbrush and the largest canvas that could fit in
my car and I painted away. Didn't know what I was doing, but that didn't matter! It was a way to
relieve my stress.
As I grew older, I began to recognize that painting and jewelry making was not only a joy for me, it was a necessary part of my life. It was what brought me to a natural and meditative state, effortlessly. It gave me balance. It was not always easy to get into that "creative" space, but once there, all other thoughts and worries released from my mind.
I have taken many great artist holidays from landscape painting in Scotland to Printmaking in the South of France and have been blessed with wonderful and talented teachers who I value and admire. I feel I have graduated from being able to fully express myself in ways that I enjoy and to share them with the world. I feel I have been gifted with a natural sense of design and I am truly grateful for that.
I wish for you the desire to seek what fulfills you and go pursue that! Take the time out to feed your soul and nurture yourself! That is what brings you alive! And, as Howard Thurman so eloquently states, "Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive."
